1. The Bell Jar (set in 1952) :
This project studies the character of Esther Greenwood, the troubled 19 year-old editorial intern whose downward spiral into depression is detailed in the novel The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath. The following includes several items Esther would have in her possession (an acceptance letter, badge, and mimeographed schedule from Ladies’ Day Magazine, a bottle of sleeping pills, an abnormal psychology book, and a prescription slip) as well as a personal medical file containing health history, charts, examination reports, and news clippings from the mental hospital at which she becomes a patient.
